He Already Knows

For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

Matthew 6:8

Does anyone else have a to-do list, and if you do, does it ever feel more like a wish list? Is it just me or does the list at times seem longer than the hours that you realistically have in a day?

The feeling of being overwhelmed is normal for most of us. If it is not your list of things to do, perhaps it is a particular circumstance in your life, wondering how you are going to pay the next bill, dealing with a health concern for you or a family member, etc. When you talk with others about feeling overwhelmed, you get an immediate response of sympathy. It seems everyone can relate.

But God. Have you ever really thought about the fact that God does not get overwhelmed? There is not a time during a day when God puts His face in His hands and says He can't keep doing this. Two quick thoughts about why this is comforting to me.

First, He knew before the foundation of the world that things were going to be the way they are, and yet He still chose to create us. He chose to deal with the problems rather than being without us. Second, there is nothing that I will bring to Him that He can't handle. Instead, prayer is that opportunity to demonstrate my dependence on Him even more. It is no wonder then that the psalmist said, when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I. So, be encouraged. He loves. He hears. He is present. He already knows!
